Toasted and melted in a cup of hot cocoa, strategically placed on top of sweet potatoes, held expectantly over a campfire, or just out of the bag - 240Sweet Artisan Marshmallows are good. Remember the marshmallows from your youth? These aren’t like those mass-produced mini sponges at all! These are fluffy, soft, and chewy, with just the right amount of sweetness and square in shape. These are the marshmallows your mom made when you were a kid - that’s if your mom made marshmallows!

Alexa Lemley creator of 240Sweet Artisan Marshmallows and Executive Chef at Lemleys’ Catering in Columbus is busy with keeping her customers satisfied with these unique and hand created sweet treats. 240Sweet Artisan Marshmallows are available in a wide range of 72 different flavors. With limited edition flavors including cotton candy and seasonal flavors like salty caramel while stranger flavors like beef and bacon have also been created.

240Sweet was born out of the need for an item to sell at the local Farmers Market and as a promotional item for Lemleys’ Catering. Word of mouth traveled around about the new sweet creation and demand skyrocketed. It became clear that handcrafted marshmallows had a following, that they would sell and people loved them. The name comes from the temperature (240 degrees) that is needed to melt sugar and create the simple syrup used to make the marshmallows.

240Sweet isn’t just getting local attention. Recently, Alexa Lemley and her 240Sweet Artisan Marshmallows gained statewide status by being recognized as the only Bartholomew County Indiana Artisan.

While the process of making homemade marshmallows isn’t new - it’s the creative touch that Alexa adds to each batch that make these superior. Whether it be triple berry or chi spice, the flavors that gained her membership to the Indiana Artisan program, or the more classic flavor of Very Vanilla Bean - it’s obvious that she has this down to a science - or even an art.

The Indiana Artisan program highlights those who create high-quality art, crafts and value-added foods in the our Hoosier state. Each month one artist is chosen to exhibit their work, do demonstrations and teach visitors more about their craft. Alexa Lemley will be the featured artist in October with two dates at the Indiana State Museum. Come see Alexa work her marshmallow magic and learn how to make your own batch on October 17th & 21st from noon to 3pm at the Indiana State Museum.
